days go by

I can't believe I've been home for almost a month already. Where does time fly?! Mum's surprise birthday party went beautifully, thanks to the help of my family, particularly my aunt and cousin, whom I enlisted to help me blow up 50 odd balloons or so to float around our kitchen. In the week that ensued, D came to visit - and it was a very welcome visit particularly after the rough patch we had a month ago. We found time to relax, watch films, go shopping, eat in, eat out, catch the Lord of the Rings stage production, argue, and (ahem) make up afterwards.

We are travelling to the coastal bit of Spain in June, a few days after my exams end, to spend a few days lazing around in Puerto Banus - although D today matter-of-factly informed me that he would not be giving me much time to laze around - make of that what you will. I can't wait (for the lazing, the non-lazing, and particularly, the shopping) and am already packing my sun lotion, capris, and bikini. My mum - being my mum, of course - is already trying to get me to 'look ahead' and tell her exactly where I am able to go come September, and has difficulty understanding what I mean when I say that I 'can't think that far ahead' (I've sort of got a thesis obstructing my vision - no big deal, really), as the response to her question depends on where I am geographically at that time (and God, does it ever vary). But what I've managed to come up with is Japan. Or northern Italy. And so my late summer travelling plans hang somewhat in limbo, for the moment.

Other thoughts:

*God, I miss London. I miss London terribly. But what else is new? When I'm not in London, I miss it. And I would give just about anything to re-live my third year there.
*Hospitals aren't nearly as bad as I remembered them to be. Bar one nurse, the staff were marvellous. The primary nurse on duty was five weeks away from giving birth and about to pop - but she had far more energy than the rest of us.
*It shouldn't work, but it does: the musical version of The Lord of the Rings was a much more cohesive production than I ever thought it would be. But I don't disagree with the critic who sniggered about the Balrog looking as though it had been made out of aluminium foil. It did.
*I don't like Burberry, and that is solely due to my distaste for its ubiquitous plaid pattern - but surely millions of Japanese (and chavs for that matter) can't be entirely wrong. But their trench coats are another story. Beautiful material, gorgeous cut, but not-so-lovely price.
*First Apple, then Moses, what next? Admittedly, Apple is starting to grow on me. But I highly, highly doubt that Moses ever will.
*There is talk about D visiting me for a few days in the UK in early August. I hope that it includes a night or two in London, just the two of us. As much as I love popping down to London when I get the chance, it never seems complete unless he's there with me.
